I have been using MS Word & Corel WordPerfect with great results
to print Avery 8160 labels, until recently. Now, regardless where I
position the text, it overlaps the labels with one half of the adress
on one label and the bottom half on the label below.

Any suggestions as to what adjustments to make to the printer because
since the problem exists with both MS and Corel, I figure the problem
is with the hardware.

Thanks.

If all else fails reinstall the software and all drivers. Due a
complete uninstall, then reboot, and finally reinstall. If the problem
persists then see if you can attach another printer (a friends) and see
if you have the same problem. If that works then it is time for a new
printer.
