"The total Watts is important but the Total Amperage Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most important, followed by the +5V amperage and then the +3.3V amperage. Because of the increased power consumption of the new high-power video cards the recommended minimum for +12V is 26A, for SLI 35A."

This is a quote from http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp.

I have noticed that most PSUs do not have a +12 amperage near 26A. Most are 18A or 20A. Even certian brands that I have come to understand as quility PSUs are 18A or 20A.

Newer powerful PSUs come with 2 or even 4 12V rails. So, if each rail has 18A (for example) that would be 18x2 = 36A, or 72A. It depends on each PSU how it distributes amperage between the rails.
My PSU has 2x12V rails, one is 20A and the other is 17A.

yah, so 20a x 2 rails doesnt equal 40 amps, its usually lower. maybe 36amps etc.
