Down level trusts and Native Mode

I have a Windows 2000 Active Directory Forest with 3 child domains also at
2000...currently we are running in mixed mode because of down level trusts
with NT 4.0 domains and some of my collegues insist this is a requirement. It
is my understanding that the trusts have no bearing on the domain functional
level. It is my desire to use universal groups and 2000 native mode to make
administration between the domains easier so I really need a definitive
answer on this question.

Thanks in advance.

Native mode has no affect on:

Member servers
clients
trusts
member servers in trusted domains
clients in trusted domains
PDCs or BDCs in trusted domains

Win 2k Native mode affects replication between Win 2k DCs and NT 4.0 BDCs in
the same domain.
