Have you checked the Jumpers on the Harddrive? Some now come out with the jumper set to SATA I
Also if your not using raid make sure the raid function is set as follows
SATA RAID: AHCI
Set the onboard SATA controller to AHCI mode.
Advanced Host
Controller Interface (AHCI) is an interface specification that allows the
storage driver to enable advanced Serial ATA features such as Native
Command Queuing and hot plug.
Also make sure the On-Chip SATA Mode is set to AUTO or Enhanced
Good Luck :)

hold it right there...my friend...
first of all it`s perfectly alright...the mobo reports the hdd as UDMA 5..which is not necesary ATA100.....no need for bios update...you look fine ...don`t worry i know this mobo and the problem has been discused with gigabyte..it`s alright....

wd2500js (i presume that`s the one you have) works perfectly with that mobo...no need for spread spectrum ..or sata 1 jumper (connect pin 5 with 6)...

good luck

1. ga-8i945p-g..does not have sata raid..only pata raid.....
2. the mobo does not have AHCI support, only ich7r has it
3. the mobo works perfectly with any sata 2 drive....

only ga-8i945p-g pro (ich7r) has these features.....

good luck

ihh...where did you get that info my friend ...i have never seen a new sata 2 drive configured (default) as sata 1 or other posibility......they have the option...but it`s up to the user to configure it as pleased.. :D

for example wd2500js or ks have problems with early nf4 mobos .. they have to be downgraded to sata 1 in orded to be properly detected....by the bios..

Stait out of the Gigabyte user manual that I downloaded from their web site yesterday. If the info's wrong the manuals wrong. :?

Some motherboards I've used just don't detect the drive when it's set in SATA II
