I am trying to connect a Windows 98 SE computer to a Windows 2003 Server
with Active Directory. Can ping the IP address of the server, but when I
try to log on, get the error that a domain controller cannot be found. The
server name is more that 8 characters long, could that be the problem?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Can you ping the server by its NetBIOS name?
Got WINS? You need it...

No, name length greater than 8 wont matter. You need WINS.
