Conroe or AMD

in a couple of months i am probably gonna get a new pc, and i was wondering, if my budget for cpu + mobo is about 300, what should i go for, i do not know anyrhing about conroe, all i know is that when u get an intel u r recommended to slap down 200 bucks for an ef-in mobo, my total for a pc is about 750 (750 after rebates )

just dont know if i get a conroe that much better if i need to spend so much on a mobo

Right now, mobos are expensive, but they will be budget mobos with Conroe support.

Gaming? Most definitely get a Conroe. Regardless of what model, you can overclock it like mad on even relatively simple air cooling solutions...and we all know what (will) happen(s) when you overclock a Conroe.
