Hey,

I've been doing a lot of research and this is my first build. I've been saving up a lot and I want it to be good. Here it is...

Processor: Intel Core 2 E6600 Duo 2.4GHZ 4MB 1066 LGA775
Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe
Video Card: eVGA Geforce 7900GT KO 500MHz PCI-E 256MB 1.5GHz GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out
Case: Thermaltake Tsunami Black W/ Window
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum
Hard Drive: I have so far a 250GB Western Digital EIDE as a backup but I need a good drive 16mb cache for my games, any recommendations?
Ram: OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 2x1GB DDR2-800 CL 4-5-4-15 240 Pin DIMM Dual Channel
Power Supply: OCZ Modstream PSU 520W
Drive: Benq DW1655
Speakers: Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 Speakers 500W RMS Silver-Black Analog Coax Optical
OS: Windows XP Home Edition
Heatsink: Zalman CNPS9500
Floppy Drive: Sony Black 1.44 MB 3.5 Inch

How does it look? and is everything compatable? thanks!

1. For the ram I would suggest these instead: http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/memory_detail.asp?id=350

Better timings for PC2-6400 than the OCZ one.

2. For your second HDD, I would go with a WD Raptor 74 Go with 16MB cache and NCQ : http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=244&language=en

This is if you can afford it.

3. For the Video card I would personnaly take a X1900XT but thats up to you, the 7900GT is still a good choice.

Finally, I would take XP Pro instead of Home Edition

i would say everything looks good....u wont need the heatsink if u dont plan on overclocking...if u r...then that should be fine too. as far as memory, i have heard some ppl have had problems with certain mobo's and ocz memory, but idk much about that particular mobo. the case, since its ur first build, u might want it to be a full case just so u have more space to put things(im also planning my first build and i chose the thermaltake armor series with window) i figure it would be easier for me. also, u might want to go with a bigger psu, something 600w+ maybe, just in case. thats just my 2 cents.........

I wouldn't go for a Raptor. There are 7200RPM hard drives just as good as the Raptor.

What would be a better, faster HDD than a Raptor? Looking to upgrade my HDD's too and want something impressive. I don't need masses of space but I do need speed and will be RAIDed.

the only reason i said 600w is because he wouldnt have to replace it for a long time. it would be a better bet to be more "future proof"...if such a term exists

PSUs degrade over time, I would never want to keep a PSU for more than three years anyway.

this is true i suppose, but next year....he might want to get a 512mb vid card, or maybe run sli.....nobody can tell as of right now. i just thought i woould recommend a 600w psu because its better to be "safe than sorry". then again, if the price point is too high, its completely understandable. and in that case, i take my foot out of my mouth lol
