Hello all of u,

just got a HDD that is not being detected in Bios of my old laptop. Have taken it out and installed it in a USB enclosure to try to retrieve some files on my new laptop (wxp).

Not being recognized as well by windows but i can hear it working. I have been googling a lot but all soft deals with deleted partitions, files and so on (which I guess happened on a good hdd)

All inputs will be much appreciated, thanks!

As in this link:
http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?cxml=n&pid=14&swid=3
for western digital hard drives to diagnose and repair low level errors. This links to the windows version, there is also a dos version to run from cd or floppy. Should be similar to the HP utility you used.

If the required files have high value to you take the drive to a reputable technician - the more you "fiddle" with the drive in many cases the less chance of successful data recovery.

If the HP utility gave an error number or description try googling the web using the exact message.
