I'm hoping to be able to build a conroe based system in time for college, (aug 30) already have the parts list, but i would like some advice/recomendations

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66Ghz 4mb? L2 cache
(Probably moderate overclocking)
Memory: Corsair XMS2 2Gb DDR2 800
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145034
Motherboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131025
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 500Gb
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822136014
Power Supply: OCZ GameXStream 600W
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817341001
Video Card: Sapphire Ati Radeon 1900XTX (considered
Crossfire, but with the arrival of DirectX 10, wait and see...)
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102672
Sound Card: X-fi Platinum
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16829102190

Plus case (Gigabyte 3D Aurora), Zalman fans for CPU(CNPS9500 LED) and Vid Card (VF900), Optical drives, os, etc.
*(Just made some corrections/changes)

Swap that power supply with a 500W supply.... 700W is totally overkill. And for the record, the Core 2 Duo chip you're thinking of is the E6700. You won't need an aftermarket heatsink for the E6700 unless you're planning on doing a lot of overclocking.

Swap that video card for this Sapphire Radeon X1900XT. The XT is exact same card as the XTX with slightly lower clocks.

Some people would rather get the E6600 with 4MB L2 Cache instead. Also, I'd rather get this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034 or this RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145589
which are Corsair instead of that Mushkin RAM. And some people would rather get a 7950X2 video card for about $50 more but the X1900XTX 512MB is pretty crazy. But it's also really expensive, some people would get a 7900GT instead and get a better CPU. Other than that, the system is just fine.

looks good.

for OS wait until you actually go to college.
Microsoft makes deals with many schools to sell windows for discount rates (generally $10 - 40) in a school library. Of course you have to sign a contract... if I remember something about agreeing not to buy commercial linux . Or maybe it was the school isnt allowed to also sell commercial linux...
