I didn't see anyone in here talking about this, so I thought I would start a new thread. Here is a quick rundown of my problem, and then what I found in other forums.

I have a brand new BFG 7900GTX oc ed. card. Stock clock. Ran great for a few days, then started having some crazy problems. At random times during a game (fear, oblivion) the card would show some artifacts for a second, then freeze. Once I would get back to the desktop, my monitor would flick on and off, over and over like the card was resetting itself. When running 3DMark '06 this would occur on the EXACT same test, in the exact same spot, every single time. (the deep freeze test)

So after 2 days blowing my mind trying anything I could think of, I do some searching and find *many* others with the identical problems with thier 7900GT and 7900GTX boards. After about 45 minutes on the phone with BFG, I got an RMA, going to get a new card.

Here are a couple of links where you can read some more info on this exact problem:

RMA RMA RMA!

Yeah its going back, but after I read thru some of that thread, I'm worried I'm just gonna get another card with the same problems. I took the cooler off of this card, and to my surprise the heatsink that covers the vreg chips was LOOSE! It was barely touching anything, just wiggling around. If this is not *the* problem, it has to be a pretty important one.
Of course I don't have any thermal tape, so I can't try the experiment that the the guy in the thread suggested. Its just a poor design, and a crappy cooler.

The problem lies with the memory, the gddr3... it seems that on some cards they are bad... or there is some strange problems with them because I have done research and I have seen people go from downclocking the same card to 600 and then cleaning the back? and overclocking to 800 without problems... Anyways from what I have read from other forums if you downclock your memory and overclock your gpu you shouldn't have any problems.
