Recently, I have been given the task to build a new computer for a friend, and I have decided that this would be a good chance to upgrade from my AMD 64 3200+ (Clawhammer) to a new 754 chip. On newegg I found a Mobile AMD 64 Processor 4000+, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819104257, and i would like to try and use it in my Asus motherboard, http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=14&l3=66&model=772&modelmenu=1. I am also using a Koolance watercooling system with this cooling block http://www.koolance.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=29_44&products_id=114.

It seems that it would work but I am skeptical about the lack of a heat spreader and the fragility of the exposed core, therefore I am seeking advice on buying this processor to go into my 754 socket. And if it were possible that this chip would work it would nice if someone could lend me some advice on how to properly install this chip, or buy a part or two to make it work. Thanks.

I know with ASUS, (I have the K8N-E Deluxe) that you need to have your chip supported by the bios and I believe that this is with all boards. Your boards supported chips are found here: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=K8N-E

I also know that you can buy some mobile to desktop conversion chips that go inbetween the processor and the slot allowing for it to work, however, very few of these have been that good and you have to also watch out for compatibility issues with them.
