Video cards for 1920x1200 widescreen X1900XTX vs 7950GX2

I'm trying to decide on a video card for a new system (conroe). The limiting factor is that I have a dell 24" 1920x1200 monitor and I want to run games in that native resolution.

The two games I'd like to play on this system first are Obilivion and Fear. One other consideration is I'd like something that will give me square aspect ratios when running games without widescreen support (in other words I want sidebars).

I'm leaning toward the 7950GX2 right now even though it's a hundred dollars more it should have a much higher fill rate that will be useful at driving 1920x1200. However I'm wondering how many games can take advantage of SLI, and how good the drivers are.

Anybody out there running 1920x1200 with good results?

  1. The 7950GX2 will perform better on both of the games you've mentioned. The X1900 is a great card, but at resolutions of 1920x1200 and higher a dual GPU solution is really required for optimal performance.
  2. The X1900XTX is an excellent single GPU card but like Heyyou27 take advantage of your wide screen and high resolution, the 7950 x 2 is the ideal option and will perform better than X1900XTX.

Drivers are's also updated quit frequently!!
