Now maybe this might explain what's going on with all those gaming articles... check out the new look http://www.tomsnetworking.com/ and the totally new http://www.tgdaily.com/ among the other sites TG Publishing is launching, and look at the top bar.

TwitchGuru? A Doom III boss? Twitching? Whatever might it be... http://www.twitchguru.com/soon.html

I guess we'd better watch that space until we go cross-eyed.

....and yes, I am aware that I am "One of them". And yes, my column was a shameless way of hooking you all. And yes, it will continue for now.

We need some drums on this site now so we can start chanting the downfall of what used to be a good website..

Don't agree with it? Well at least those unhappy with having gaming stuff on tomshardware.com itself will be happy to see most of it go its own way.

Essentially the gaming website is part of TG Publishing, not Tom's Hardware.

the problem now is too much fluff, i about laughed my ass off when i saw that live stress test thing that went on way too long. whats so great about watching voltage readings for days on end. and all the reviews on games, this is not a game review site, its tomsHARDWARE.com. and it seems that the reviews of hardware are little more than sales pitches. though the guides and how to articles are pretty decent. thg has lost what it once was, where are the cool articles about how to volt mod the latest video card, hard core over clocking articles, and how to mod things into their full potential. some of these things are still there infrequently but no where near what they used to be. they have been replaced by articles riddled with errors and biased information.

Remember when they poured liquid nitrogen into that specially made heat sink just to over clock a P4 to over 3.0GHz? Ahh.. the good fun worthwhile days..

I see where you're coming from. Most of the fluff in terms of games stuff is going to its own site... as for the other stuff, well I was in with Lenovo the other day and they told me about their shock resistant laptops. Expect new "Bounce off the Four Walls" benchmarks as soon as that comes as standard on most laptops...

I think it's great.

Granted, I'm biased and I'm not an IT tech. head. I think it only makes sense to branch out (for any company) as competencies widen out into other related areas AND customer needs in these areas are waiting to be met. In this way, THG should be successful as long as their execution is spot on.

haha nono.. they had that copper tube made by a coppersmith, then it was welded to a copper sink they took apart, wrapped in some kind of highend insulation, mounted to the board.. then they poured the nitrogen into the tube.. had it outside, outside the case.. it was like 10 inches high, filled to the brim. Ice started forming all over the board and I think they hit 3.06ghz with it.

I want to say it was like a 2.4 or something.. it was a while ago.. I can't believe no one remembers that article.

I did, was boring cos they couldn't run any tests on it, they just got it stable and that's it. Would have been cooler to run some benchmarks.

I am a long term reader of THG (since mid-late 90's) and I have seen the site grow and grow. I have always recommended THG to my friends and colleages but I do have to admit that some of the 'new' articles leave a lot to be desired.

I am a bit of a gamer so I don't mind the odd gaming article; looking at the technology behind Valve's HDR graphic enhancements and LAN party coverage sort of articles I enjoy but the recent gaming 'dross' that has been appearing on the site is seriously damaging the credibility of the site.

I also read AnandTech, ExtremeTech, The Register and HardOCP (and dare I say the BBC tech news), to be honest I have started reading them more and THG less.

You need to get back to basics, you should now by now 'content is king' on the Internet, if you don't have decent content you will start to lose readers and without your readers you will become nothing.

Enough ranting, despite current problems I will continue to read THG in the hope that things will get better.
