Ok guys, would you buy a 19" LCD w/ 25ms response time, 500:1 contrast, 170ยบ viewing angle horizontal and vertical, but it doesn't use MVA! Price is $1700 but I can get it for $1145- what do u think, go for it? (I'm returning my TFT7020)
Depends on the native resolution. 1600x1200 on a 19" would be very nice. 1280x1024 on a 19" would be pretty sad. You would be looking at a pixel pitch of .2415 vs .294 which IMHO is a big difference. Desktop LCD manufacturers need to start producing higher dpi displays like those found in laptops. Getting a bigger screen with the same resolution as your tft7020 would really be a step backwards. If you are looking at a 19" 1600x1200, by all means, scoop it up at that price. Care to share the deal?
Yeah, but if you are looking at a larger screen, a higher dot pitch wouldn't be a step backwards. The dpi wouldn't be so high, but the screen is larger, so it kind of evens out IMO. But I do agree, 1600x1200 would be great. So what's the LCD??
19" is just big, so I do think that makes up for it. Also, a 15" is .300! I am returning for a few reasons. The first is that the brightness is slightly garish, especially when viewing for long time. This really annoys my eyes, since they are very sensitive to light. Also, there is a tad of banding if you look closely, and being a graphics designer, I keep noticing it. Finally, and also a big reason, is that I am returning it b/c I'm pissed at Compaq. Despite many emails confirming the TOTAL response time is 25ms, it is actually 40ms. I just don't want a product from a company that lies like that, and if u want the same monitor, only slightly cheaper, get a VG171 from Viewsonic (they are essentially the same, since both are the exact same specs, produce same image, use same technology- diffuse film.
I guess I just don't see the point of that. A bigger LCD with the same resolution will just make everything bigger and less sharp. You won't have any additional desktop space, everything will just be larger and fuzzier, seems silly if you ask me. I suppose if you only care about having a huge gaming monitor, it would be nice. However, those who are only concerned about gaming won't likely be buying an LCD unless they are really cramped for space.
I thought you said that the tft7020 had absolutely NO ghosting/afterglow/blurring. Who cares what the marketing department reports the response time to be? It is the performance that counts. A perfect example is that I returned the pv150 because it had disgusting unbearable ghosting/blurring/afterglow. That fujitsu mva panel was rated at total typical rt of 25ms. I then purchased an envision 7100 becuase I got it new for an insane price that I just could not pass up. This thing has almost NO ghosting/afterglow/blurring and it is rated at 50ms. IMHO the response time spec that the public gets to see means squat.
Yeah, no kidding. Where you just bsing us before?? Or maybe now you are going to say getting an LCD with a 40ms response time shouldn't be a problem for gamers. *Shrug* I am very much confused now....
I guess I'm glad I didn't get the tft7020 after all. I got the 7100 for less than half of what the 7020 would have cost me! The only thing I don't love about this envision LCD is that the vertical viewing angles are not perfect. However, put perfect viewing angles and $400 on the table, guess which one I will pick every time?
Actually, another thing I don't love is the one stuck pixel but when Staples gets more 7100's in stock, I will probably get a replacement. Actually, I can't even see it unless the screen is dark in the area where the stuck pixel is. Browsing web sites with light colored backgrounds make that pixel invisible. It just shows up during darker scenes in games (just to the right of the cross-hair).
There is no ghosting as in say a lamp against a black sky, when I move, it won't streak or anything, but I noticed that in games, textures- especially Aliens v Predators2 aren't as sharp. This is due to response time. I just want to try out other solutions. That and also the brightness is annoying.

It's called the S-19. It's from AG Neovo. And yes, I too believe that 1600x1200 would be tiny on 19". Hehe, my parents got worried that the fonts were too small on my 17" LCD, but I got used to it, and now they seem kinda big. BTW, if any of you are asking who the hell is Neovo, they are a good company, and I found (I contacted them a year ago regarding a different LCD) they have awesome tech support.
Dude, not sure why you would choose this LCD as the specs are slighty worse than a VG191, and the VG191 is under 1000 dollars. That or wait for Samsung's 191T that uses PVA. It will be out near the end or March and has the same specs (or maybe even better) then the VG191 (just costs a bit more).
How very odd. I have seen that website before, but the contrast is also 200:1 lower (300:1 vs 500:1). Same thing w/ viewing angle. Possible difference in European and American product? O, and Prof, it's not that I have beef w/ teh monitor, it's nice and all, just that I'm pissed at Compaq for lying, which is why I'm returning it (hehe, already cost em 2 other TFT7020's after they died). I also just want something bigger and that's wall mountable cause then it justlooks cool! I'm after teh exotic LCD's
Data on what specifically? On the TFT7020, I got my data from the User manual- if you want I can take a screen shot w/ it saying 15+25ms response time. The S-19 specs I get from Neovo's website, and just sent email asking what's the deal w/ difference in specs.
Well good luck on getting a reply. I never got one from Samsung. But even if the specs are on par, why get one without MVA?? MVA still hasn't been proven to cause the ghosting probs mentioned before. That or why not go with Samsung that uses PVA. Their 191T will cost less than this one you are getting.
Haha, not the way things are going- wtf, min $1200, max like $1500 for the 181T. This means the 191T will be rather costly. I think $1145 is pretty good price, and I will most likely get a response- Neovo is very fast on that (I have contacted many times and gotten an answer within an hour).
The samsung has the best specs but I don't know if any finished units are using it yet. Personally, I think it is absurd to buy a 19" @1280x1024, the dpi won't be any better than that on a 15" @ 1024x768 - not sharp at all!
I really want that 200 dpi IBM LCD but I think it's about $15,000. Anyone have a link to more info about the IBM 200 dpi LCD? I can't seem to find the site where I read about it before. 200 dpi, mmmmmmmm, I remember that it was supposed to have text that looked as good as that which is printed on paper.

Hmmm....Flame, retail on that is about 1700. How are you getting it so low of a price? Anyway, I remember posting about that link you were showing Eviscerate about the Samsung LCD. It says it uses APVA, so I guess it won't be out for awhile. Can't wait though, cause the specs look great.
Lol! I must say I'm amused as hell...... Your HIGH recomendation is the reason several people purchased a 7020.
That being said, I also have a 7020 and use it for heavy-duty 3D gaming. I play Everquest which has complex graphics as well as Counterstrike, and I am perfectly happy with the response time, refresh rate, whatever you want to call it. I do not get ghosting at all, and everything is clear as a bell. I don't know how you consider this monitor too bright, but I guess everone has their own opinion. It's just right for me. I literally like to have 2 computers on at the same time when playing (for various reasons, I'll explain if you care). The two computers are Athlon 1900+, 512 meg DDR SDRAM, Asus A7V266-E, WD 12000JJ 120 gig machines, with the "main" computer using a Gainward Geforce 3 TI200 w/128 megs memory OCed to TI500 speeds and Samsung 955DF 19" CRT, and my "side" computer using a Gainward GeForce 3 DVI connected to the Compaq monitor.
I am constantly looking from one monitor to the other, as I often play 2 characters at the same time. The 955DF is slightly clearer, and the Compaq does have distortion if you look directly from above the monitor, but overall I don't even notice a difference. It's the same image that I see in both screens, as the 17" LCD is the same viewing size as the 955DF 19" CRT.
I don't know of a better side-by-side comparison, since I use this setup every day. I am extremely happy with the 7020 and glad I made the purchase. I've seen other LCDs and while they are also nice, they don't compare in the lack of ghosting that I experience daily under heavy duty applications.
To each their own. But I guess you're still trying to make up your mind. Good luck to you.
