Don't spend extra money on DDR2 800MHz because the Conroe won't be able to use all of that bandwidth, and get an X1800XT instead of the 7900GT. It performs better, supports OpenEXR HDR and antialiasing simultaneously, high quality anisotropic filtering and has some nice AVIVO features.

Dunno about mobo, ask The_Prophecy by pm, he knows a nice gigabyte board although I would wait and get a cheap non-SLi motherboard that will support Kentsfield. About PSU, get a Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W Power Supply or pay $10 more and get a Antec TruePower 550W Power Supply at NewEgg. Get a 160GB SeaGate Barracuda for a hard drive. Get a NEC Optical Drive from NewEgg with at least 100 reviews and make sure it averages 5 stars and it should be at max $40. The Corsair XMS DDR2-800 seems okay but I'd get some OCZ Gold DDR2-800 from NewEgg because they have a $40 mail-in rebate with that costing only $161.99. Instead of the 7900GT, get a X1800XT 512MB or a X1900XT 256MB. Both are good, especially for MMORPGs.

Since your a nub system builder this is the most safe and logical route for truely immense gaming experience. Driver issues, BSODs and hardware failures are going to frustrate you to wits end.

That just means they pay them money to advertise their product.

There are several other threads with the 1300 budget including mine if you search a little. I have been looking through newegg.com for the last 2 weeks to find out how prices fluctuate and see what I can get for the best money. I suggest you do the same and come back with a spec, then let the forum regulars pick it apart.

He is asking you about making a computer, not what he would be better off buying or doing. :)

I would defnetely get Corsair memory. I have Corsair XMS 2 GB on my sys. Works great! For a HD, try Seagate Barracuda. For a DVD/RW "thingy", try Samsung DVD writer with Lightscribe.
