hello I was wondering what would be better a 7900 gt in sli mode or x1800xt in crossfire for things like mmorpg games?

7900GT because its newer ...... supports the latest shader tech stuff and all others.

I believe its faster 2..........

A X1800XTX is only arount the same performer as a 7800GTX aint it??

Nevertheless, X1800XTX was once, King of the Hill!!!

an x1800xt is pretty much on a par with the 7900gt, each being better at different games.

That being said if it came to choosing between SLI and Crossfire I'd probably choose SLI, just becuase you don't need a mastercard and there seem to be more SLI motherboards than crossfire.

What do you need SLI for? as generally its only really needed when running super-high resolutions. As a rule of thumb I find one good card is better than two not-so-good cards. Perhaps have a look at the x1900xt?

Actually, the X1800XT has newer features. Both cards perform similar, and there's no clear choice.

Yes, but the 7800 GTX performs the same as the 7900 GT...

As single cards, they both win their share of benches at stock clockspeeds. In SLI/crossfire mode, it's had to say... I haven't seen anybody bench the X1800's with Ati's new mobo chipsets, they are supposed to help alot.

Once again though, it probably depends on the game.

Sorry to say, but that's just pitiful advice and a couple of these veterans really went easy on you. Sheesh, I thought I was the soft one around here  . The cards are pretty equal and if anything the X1800XT would get the performance and feature edge.

Reguardless, the OP should avoid X1800XT crossfire for pricing. Crossfire master cards are $350+. SO SLI 7900GT is easily cheaper than Crossfire X1800XT.

IMO, He's better off buying a $325 X1900XT and getting a crossfire master card later if he feels the urge. More likely he will then want a DX10 card before that, so stick to 1 X1900XT until then or get a cheap single 7900GT or 256MB X1800XT to hold him off until DX10 cards. Buying two high end DX9 cards isn't a great investment unless money is no object.

pretty stupid..the 7800gtx is the 7900gt esencialy just that its a 110nm procesor and the 7900gt is 90nm and the x1800xt is faster than the 7900gt, u can oc the 7900gt to the x1800xt speeds but it can have artifacts... id crossfire the x1800xt over the 7900gt..in other words id crossfire the x1800xt over hte 7900gt

Pauldh has this one right. Although I personally prefer XF over SLI,
the simple fact is an X1800XT mastercard is an ass load of money, and the other thing is, there about as hard to find as an intelligent blonde.

So I'm running with him, either aim for the X1900 setup, or the 7900 is your solution.

While the X1800XT would be better in a single card solution, as we've seen in the past, Crossfire does not usually receive as large of a performance increase over a single card as SLI does due to its maturity. Another thing, the heat output and power consumption on the X1800XTs would be greater than the 7900GTs. I rarely recommend the 7900GT over the X1800XT, but this is one situation I do.

As much as I hate to say it, neither platform see's a performance increase much greater than the other, I couldnt care less about the driver maturity.

Heat output would be less for the machine itself becuase of the fan design on the X1800...power consumption around the same for both GPUs.

I would recommend the X1800XT nearly consistently over the 7900, but this is one situation when I would say either X1900 or bust.
