Sound dies while using ventrilo, videolan, and other apps.

Hi my problems is the follwoing, when im using ventrilo adn playing BF1942
at the same time ventrilos sound dies sometimes, not always, but id does
sometimes. Also sound dies when im using videolan to preview video files
that im downlaoding from eMule.
One thing ive discovered is that if the sound dies on ventrilo running other
app like winamp(using waveOut output dll, with directsound output dll it
works), videolan.So I'm guessing thta because winamps waveout dll doesnt
works and direct sound does, that the wave output dies. Is there a way to
reset the wave output in windows xp pro?
Restarting/Closing the app(usually ventrilo and videolan) doesnt fix
it...upgrading to new drivers didnt help....
