Can i throw in one of my old ASUS 6600gt card's in the sec slot to run a lower rez moniter for minor things like surfing and other crap while playing games? i though about trying it but wanted to know if anyone has tryed just for the hell of it.

I dont think so sorry. 7800 and 6600 are two completely different chips.

Well i'm going to try it when i get home. I'm not trying to setup sli with the ASUS 7800gt dual with a 6600gt I know that won't work. I'm trying to run 2 diff LCD's at the same time with diff resoultions.

Yeah i know that. I'm no super techy so maybe someone else can correct me, but it just seems to reek of a bad idea.

I'm with Chris on this one. You need to have two compatible cards to run SLI. In other words, two 6600GTs, etc. I don't know if will hurt anything, but I'm certain it won't work. Not without awesome hardware/driver moding abilities.

I'm not familiar with the MB (does it have a config option for SLI/non-SLI in bios?) but you should be able to run a 2nd GPU as a second head. make sure you aren't running in SLI mode.

note: windows might detect your second screen as head #3.

I could see some problems cropping up but that would be in the speed of the 6600, I don't see any reason it shouldn't work like adding a PCI in with an AGP card.

i think it could work , the only bad thing i see happening maybe is the drivers getting screwed up by the different gpu's and your games getting unstable but its just a gess.i might work so trie it and then tell us if it worked.

Well I tried it last night. And guess what, It worked. Sli was also enabled still with the 7800GT dual. It noticed the second LCD as head 3. As far as I could tell it didn't affect performance while playing games. I'm going to play around with it some more today.

I want to buy that same Gateway LCD, but have heard some bad things about it. How does it work for you, do you like it?
