Music reproduction for win 7

Hello,
I would like to start recording music using win 7. guitar voice, drums & maybe additional instruments. what is needed ?

I'm a little rusty on those, the last sound card for that I used to know is the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 but that's old I don't know if it even works with W7.
