Going to build a PC for lil bros on a budget, need to get the best bang for the buck. 805 is only a $110 and that only about $20 more then the AMD, what do you guys think would perform better for multitasking and gaming.

Of course either chip I get I am going to be put a nice HS and overclock it.

I have been reading a lot lately and at the moment am leaning more towards the Intel, though I am an AMD enthusiast.

I dont know much about which motherboard would good to OC the intel, so if anyone here has any input on this subject your help would greatly be appreciated.

thanx

The last price I know of the 3000+ is arounr $80-90 ned you've got the 3500+ retail for around $110, a better gamer than the 805.

3500+ for will slaughter the 805 in gaming. 805 will be better than 805 in multitasking. Which is your top priority: gaming or multitasking? I know what mine would be; I'd get the 3500+.

I think my lil bros are planning to game and multitask.
I think amd 3000-3500+ will be better stability wise.

The 3500+ is a better option for you coinsidering that when multitasking is mentioned, heavy multitasking is meant (2 full loading programs, not Word and Mediaplayer etc).

I'd get the D805. Overclocked, it'll out perform the 3500+ stock in gaming, and give you some headroom for all the background programs (firewall, anti-virus, messengers, Xfire, OS etc.).

We have 805s here and easy overclock 20%. THG managed 50% with semi-extreme measures. If you want the 805 to OC, I suggest a stable PSU due to the extra power you'll be drawing from it.

Is a 3500+ better than a 3500+? LOL, jk.
  Don't worry dude, I'm tesin' ya. :P

Back to topic:
Even for OCing, the 805 needs some serious cooling. To get it to 3.5, watercooling should be needed.
For stock:
805 better for multi-tasking, such as playing games, while decoding a movie.

3000+ is better for single tasks. Playing a game, or just decoding a movie.

Well said, the 805 is a good overclocker but only with something scary instead of a cooler :D . If you're lucky you can send a 3500+ to 2.6 or 2.7 on air and that beats the 805.

if i end up gettin 805 i am not going to liquid cool (low budget), i am gonna end up gettin a zalman HS probably with AS5, of course I will have decent ram and PS.

Mobo is what I am not sure about for 805.

What motherboards are you guys using here for ocing 805?

As far as the AMD, I pretty positive that it can overclock without gettin hot.
My roommate has DFI LP expert with a 3500+(venice@2.2 stock) and he is pushing it to ~2.76, idle's at 28C with an AC freezer 64

I'm happy with my ASUS P5LD2. It's stable and inexpensive and might have limited Conroe support too. If you want to use RAID, be sure to buy SATAII drives - IDE RAID is not available on this board.

My cooler is the Zalman 9500. I hear good things about the Arctic Freezer HSF also, and it's less expensive than the Zalman. My 805 does 3.7 GHz at 1.4v. It's hot, but the Zalman keeps up.

Maybe I should go back to sleep (head falls onto keyboard, begins drooling.)

Dude no serious cooling needed... I had my 805 OC'd all the way to 3.6GHZ using the stock Intel fan. I bought a water cooling system and clocked it all the way up to 4.0 GHZ 800 MHZ FSB. That is basically a 50% Overclocking. I took out my P4 3.4 GHZ proceesor that cost me $225 6 months ago and put in the 805 for $115. THG did a review of the 805 and was able to run the 2.66Ghz 533MHZ FSB Processor all the way to 4.1GHZ. See the THG article here

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/0 [...] ghz_cores/

At that speed it runs a lot of the benchmarks as fast as the Pentium Xtreme processors that costs around $1000. If you run the 805 on one of the motherboard in the article, you can OC like crazy. People say that if you OC it that high it won't last as long as your average processor, but if you keep it cool it will last long enough. Plus how many 805's can you buy before you spend as much as one of the Xtreme proceesors. You can buy two in case one burns out after a year. And the 805 is a dual core processor so it is good for multitasking.

If you don't buy one of the motherboards in the review, or want to put it in your current MB, make SURE the MB supports the 805 CPU Rev B. The board you buy might supoort other 800 series processor or the 900 series, that doesn't mean it will support the 805. Excellent buy for the money.

THG built a kick ass gaming system for around $700, see the article here Kick Ass system for $700
