I was in a computer shop today, looking for a 7800 gs when one of the employees recommended that I get a 6600 gt instead. He said that the 6600 gt would give me a better frame rate than the 7800 gs, while the 7800 gs would give me better detail. Is this true?

Forgive me for asking something that's probably blindingly obvious to the rest of you, but I'd really like to know.

The moron who said that, should be barried alive. The 7800GS will KILL THE LIVING CRAP out of a 6600GT in framerates and quality. Don't listen to him, get the 7800GS.

Here is proof:

6600GT 3D 1024*768, 32 Bit, AA4X, AF8X: score = 448

7800GS 3D 1024*768, 32 Bit, AA4X, AF8X: score = 1150

3D Mark is a benchmark test to evaluate computers, in this test all the hardware is identical except for the video card so it is grading the videocard. The higher the score the better.

The test run on the cards is the same, the quality is the same, the score and therefore framerates are drastically different, in fact the 7800GS more than DOUBLES the preformance of the 6600 GT.

Note: You are comparing the 2 blue bars to each other. You can look at other tests too. I recommend you compare your favorite game as the benchmark, or a game that is substantially similar.
