I was wondering if someone can diagnose what is going on with my new drive, which I just installed today.

I have burned several CD's just fine, but when I try and burn a DVD from an ISO image everything starts out great in Nero, but the recording stops at a given percentage complete and does not proceed. Nero does absolutely nothing and I am forced to reboot in order to cancel the burn and eject the DVD. I am using RIDATA 16X DVD+R DVD's. I tried burning at both 16X and 8X with the same outcome. The furthest I got was to 60% complete.

I have a Pentium 3, 866 MHZ, with 128 MB Ram. I am running Windows 98 and the BenQ 1655 is set to the Master. I dont have a slave drive.

I checked with BenQ's requirements and I meet all the minimum requirements, which they specify.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? Nero isnt reporting back any errors. It just stalls during the DVD burning process and never recovers. It does not crash however, because the burn time continues counting. My computer doesnt lock up either.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

any chance you had powerIso installed before you got the new burner, I had that program and it limited my dvd burning to around 70% of the dvd and wouldnt allow me to burn further.

Did an full system reinstall and it's burning fine now that powerIso is not installed.

Check if you have any other programs that could be mucking up nero.
also there are a few diagnostic tools out there that can check the dvd writer for problems, DVDINFO is one I think, not sure if thats right tho.
