Cd recognized by device manager but not by windows

Hello,
My win 7 system was up and running without any problems. I don't recall making any changes in hardware, however several S/W updates have been installed.

Suddenly my CD/DVD did not show up in the devices screen (and did not work). It does show up in the bios and the device manager.

If I uninstall it, it comes back into the device manager but it still doesn't show up in the devices with removable storage screen

Is this when the drive is empty or when it has a CD in it?

Common registry fault.

Google " [insert windows version here] cd registry fix"

Download the registry file, install it, restart and it will most likely be fixed.
