When running DCPromo I receive the following error:

Active Directory could not find another domain controller to transfer
the remaining data in directory partition
DC=ForestDnsZones,DC=mydomain,DC=ad.

"The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted."

I'm trying to remove a server from our test environment and I don't
want to force the removal. Any ideas? thanks in advance.

dcpromo /foreremoval

That'll demote the box regardless.

Are there other 2003 DCs in this domain? Are there any other DCs? You'll
need to do a metadata cleanup.

Google, "ntdsutil metadata unsuccessful demotion site:support.microsoft.com"
without the quotes ;-)

I was trying to avoid the /forceremoval. There are three root DC's and
2 other DC's.
