thermal in the pins help

it is my first build and it turns out that my motherboard was a dud. so when taking the cpu out i some how maniged to get thermal paste in the 775 pins. :( how to get it out with out harming the pins and will the fact that it is there void my RMA.

please help!!!!! :(

I would surround the socket 775 with paper towels, then carefully apply some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to the area of goop. Use a can of air duster with more paper towels behind where you spray to catch what is blown off. Hopefully that will work well enough -- you don't want to be physically touching the contacts, as they are very fragile.

thanks Mondoman :D i was thinking of something like that but i did not no if it was ok to pour it right on the socket

also make sure you are grounded while handling the cpu.

i worked for seagate < back in the early 90s>
i assembled the hard drives in a clean room
i have been an auto tech ever since
and i wear saftey gear to protect my hands, eyes
but at seagate i had to wear saftey gear to protect the harddrives
mainly from static electricity.
