thermal in the pins help

it is my first build and it turns out that my motherboard was a dud. so when taking the cpu out i some how maniged to get thermal paste in the 775 pins. how to get it out with out harming the pins and will the fact that it is there void my RMA.

please help!!!!!

I would surround the socket 775 with paper towels, then carefully apply some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to the area of goop. Use a can of air duster with more paper towels behind where you spray to catch what is blown off. Hopefully that will work well enough -- you don't want to be physically touching the contacts, as they are very fragile.

Don't "pour" it! Just dribble a little bit at a time, as you don't want it running all over the socket and motherboard.

also make sure you are grounded while handling the cpu.

i worked for seagate < back in the early 90s>
i assembled the hard drives in a clean room
i have been an auto tech ever since
and i wear saftey gear to protect my hands, eyes
but at seagate i had to wear saftey gear to protect the harddrives
mainly from static electricity.
