Ok guys right off, I have been waiting on the conroe and stuff but I am not sure if price for price I will get the same speed for the money at the moment. There is a local store that has an AMD 4200+ X2 for $820 and another for like $950. I am posting links.

Am I getting enough bang for my buck? I just dont want to be an idiot and get something for too much ya know. Will there be a system offered that will be around these price ranges with all the stuff these pc's come with. If so then I may wait a little longer. Also.....is the 4200+ X2 a pretty strong (fast powerful) processor like I am thinking it is?

I just keep seeing all these Conroe benchmarks and how they are kicking everythings but, so uhm...yeah....a little help would be great.

BTW I am serious about this post. I am not sponsoring some company or any of that garbage. I just need some straight answers is all. Thanks

Yes, do not plan on using it for gaming.

As for the proc, really unless you have money to burn you should get the best you can for around 400-500 dollars and spend the rest on other components, unless you are doing CPU-dependent stuff like professional 3D rendering (very different from 3D gaming), video compression or the like. You would be much better off buying a high-end video card. I would suggest that you go dual-core with the CPU just because of the general usefulness but thats just MHO.

Conroe is faster, but I have to wonder about the maturity of the drivers-chipsets-BIOS settings for it. And once again, the CPU isn't as important as it once was. Good luck.

ha.

yeah. do your self a favour. dont buy the system. shop about and you will find better for less. the CPU is a good CPU but the rest of the system it a bit of a let down. its not bad but its not worth that much of ur hard earned wonga.

goodluck.

Check his links, he is not buy the CPU but a complete system...

aaaah, that would explain it. Actually hes getting a decent system for the price, but he'll have to upgrade the video if he wants to play games.

I tried to read this post, but some arsehole jammed it up with all that conroe crap, but, the price for that processor is way overpriced. Shop someplace else
