Well, I am slightly confused. You are looking for a compairson of the X1800XT, the 7900GT, and the X1900GT. Prozac did a simple, good compairson...

The older Radeon X1800XT cards are unquestionably faster and the problem with this is they are also cheaper. Even the GeForce 7900GT was quicker in most cases and when it did come in second to the X1900GT there was very little in it.

That was from the third reivew, Legion Hardware.

In some areas, the R580-based Radeon X1900GT is faster than the card it is replacing. However, in other, less shader-intense titles like Day of Defeat: Source, the R520-based Radeon X1800XT is the faster of the two. This can be attributed to the architectural differences between R520 and R580.

That was from the last review, bit-tech. You were wondering specifically on the shader performance....

Yeah...I guess the X1900GT is a flop and the 7900GT has taken the major lead in the $275-350 range...
Not exactly seeing where you are coming from. X1800XT 256MB is still available for $235 and the X1900XT for $325 AR. SO 7900GT major lead just makes no sense to me. They are winning in failure rate though.

And the 256MB X1800XT beats out the 7900GT and X1900GT in the high res AA/AF benchies this test below. Even if you call them equal, how exactly does the 7900GT have a huge lead in a price range that includes the X1800XT and X1900XT?

  Sorry! Don't know what I smoking. I mean, I don't know what I was thinking...

X1900XT wins in the $300-350 range then, but the cooler is noisy...Gotta get the HiS IceQ...Otherwise, it is a good card.

Well, in defense of the 7900GT, it's pricing lately has made it an even better option than ever. It is a great buy, just not for $350.

Buy.com had one for under $220 AR which pretty much matches the best price I've seen for the 256MB X1800XT. One thing seems clear, 7900GT, X1900GT, and X1800XT 256MB are all about the same price through Newegg now, which IMO they need to stay down under $250 or the X1900XT gets in the way. WOuldn't these all be nice cards if they drop to $200. And it would seem that the newest card of the bunch, the X1900GT takes the back seat by a little.

You know, I can't comment on the X1900XT cooler noise, but my Sapphire X1800XT is pretty stinking quiet through all my gaming so far. My room temps have gone up, and last night during Oblivion was the first time I heard the card ramp up above the 49% mark (except whn I changed it in ATI Tool). I agree with you, I sure would like the X1900XT Ice Q model and at an extra $40 with Flatout, it would be very tempting if I were buying today.

Yeah, those three cards are the major cards in that price range. I don't know what ATI is going for with the GT...It is sometimes slower than the previous generation, it's price isn't that much lower. I personally like the X1800XT over the 7900GT.... The GT may be one slot, but I like big things. I mean, I would pick a double-slot cooler over any single slot cooler on any day; it keeps my conscious happy. It makes me feel good with a huge fan blowing on it, than a tiny one. I would absolutely LOVE for these cards to drop to $200, which in turn should signal the X1900XT(X) to drop prices, which in then would make it an impluse buy. The 1900XT can be had for around 390, which I think is worth the extra shaders and memory...

On the reviews that I read, the dual-slot cooler implemented by ATI was noisy, but it may just be the reviews..
