GTXs consume more power, cost more, and run hotter. But, its 512MB memory, works VERY well in SLi, overclocks higher than 7900GT, better resolution, etc. I own 2 GTXs, so take it from me :D

There is a noticeable difference in performance. The 7900GT is no slouch, but the 7900GTX is quite a bit faster. If you have cash to burn, get the GTX (or a 7950GX2 for about $100 more). If you can't blow $450 on a video card, consider the Radeon X1900XT for $325, which performs nearly the same as the 7900GTX and X1900XTX for about $100 less.

Yes there is a difference.

Here's a better question:
Do you really need GTX's power ?
Here are a few questions to figure that out:
What are your computer specification? [Ram, cpu, cooling, etc]
You play your games at wich resolution? On what kind of device? [lcd, crt, size]?
What kind of game do you play?
