HP Laserjet 4050TN with Jetdirect J3113A challenge :)

Hello there

I see that there are a few threads concerning this combination. I have
adopted this HP workhorse into a mainly wireless network consisting of
Macintosh and Windows XP systems.

I was hoping to connect the printer to the router via ethernet and
then have the wireless computers print things on it but this seems to
be more of a challange than I thought.

I do not seem to be able to find any documentation that helps me
configure the set-up.

Having printed out a configuration menu it shows the JetDirect as
being present with a DHCP address given out by the Netgear router
being used and attached to but whatever I try I do not seem to be
able to get any of the computers to see it or print to it.

Can anybody point me towards some up to date documentation or software
as the HP site is hopeless.

Many thanks for any help anybody can provide!

HP's web site is better than most.

Go to

http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support

and plug j3113a into the search field and you'll find docs and info.

You have not described your situation. Can you ping the printer ? If
no you have an IP setup problem. If Yes you have a workgroup print
sharing setup problem.

There are many ways to set up print sharing. I like LPR/LPRd. I expect
that a modern MAC system can use it.

Don't blame me. I voted for Gore.

Set the IP address of the printer statically. You (usually) can't count
on it always getting the same address through DHCP. Full-featured DHCP
servers can be configured to assign a particular IP address to a
given MAC address.

You should define what you mean by "see it". Can you ping the printer
from the clients?

Here's something I wrote a while back that may be helpful:
