Ok, so i have an Opty 146 in the following system

Opty 146 cooled w/ Zalman 7000-Cu
Abit AT8 (RD480)
2 GB DDR 500 (OCZ) (3-3-3-8 advertised, i let it auto detect)
NeoHE 500w.
NZXT Lexa
3 HDD's

ok, so im overclocking it, it makes it to 2.4, when i set the bus in the bios to 245MHz and restart it doesnt post, nothing, blank screen, so i turn it off reset the CMOS to previous settings by pressing insert and it boots fine then.

Why is it not going over 2.4? do i need to set the RAM to certain timings?

also my mobo wont let me go under 1.4 volts for the CPU.

im not big on voltage settings so if someone has certain settings that are proved to work with a similar system it would be appreciated. Thanks

First off, is your memory 4x 512MB or 2x 1GB ?

Drop the HT multi down to 3x or 4x, set your memory timings manually and force a ratio on your RAM, this will isolate your CPU and let you OC it as far as it can go, up to a certain point, you'll have to INCREASE your CPU Vcore.

its 2 x 1 GB

also why do i have to increase the vcore? stock is 1.35 but my mobo doesnt go below 1.4 and my CPU running at stock speeds is 38*C idle.

also multiplier or 3 or 4!!! that would be 4 x 250Mhz = 1 GHz !!!

are u sure to drop it that low??

No, he mean your HT multiplier. Not your cpu. Drop the ram too, so that it goes as close to rated speed when cpu is overclocked.

He is talking about the HT multiplier. You need to read the sticky about overclocking so that you become familiar with the HT multiplier.

I normally wouldn't say this, but your signature insensitively states you hate "retards." You just proved you hate yourself.

You're trying to overclock while lowering the voltage? :?

My Opty 146 will clock at 1.8 ghz on stock voltage  . You just need to set your memory timings and ht to a stable setting first. Good luck!

i think u meant 2.8. ok ill set the RAM timings

@Heyyou27, yes, my mobo cant set the voltage at 1.35 1.4 is the lowest it will go.

No, he mean your HT multiplier. Not your cpu. Drop the ram too, so that it goes as close to rated speed when cpu is overclocked.

I don't think he needs to drop the ram/cpu divider yet, since his ram is rated for ddr500 speeds, and since his multi is right now 250, he's only JUST hit that speed, and I'm sure that his ram can do a bit faster than that. You'll want to check the ram timings just to make sure they aren't too tight, and if they are then you'll want to loosen them a bit.

But agreeing with everyone else here, it probably is your htt multi which is screwing you up. If you're looking for it it might say something like fsb multi or htt multi or something, I can't remember what it is, I haven't touched the oc'ed opty 165 in a week and a half.

That would'nt be the first time I see so called "DDR500" failing to run at a frequency under 250MHz...

@ Pengwin :

Unless you find where the HT multiplier setting is in your BIOS, you're pretty much stuck there, I won't go digging into your motherboard manual...

Come on - give him some credit.

He's trying to overclock his processor by lowering his voltages. Mad props for the novel idea.
