How Far can u OC a Pentium D 950 3.4GHz

Great... now lets actually answer the OP's question. He asked about the 950... not the 960.

To the OP: With a Zalman CNPS9500, you'll probably be able to hit 3.8. Don't expect to get much higher without a water cooling setup though.

I'm using a Zalman CNPS9500 and i managed to reach 4.2 with just that, and a case with a decent air flow. And im using a D930. Maybe i was just lucky, but i reckon if his case has decent air flow and he has decent RAM with the Zalman CNPS9500 he should be able to reach 4ghz.

Aye, good point there mate. Try and get a Gigabyte 975x board, the one i have (dont know exact model number :-\) is very good, and has what seems like hundreds of options!

I have a lower model of the P-D 950, I got the P-D 940 I can get OC it to 3.83Ghz with a Ninja Scythe easily, without even increasing the vcore that is. In regards to temp it runs around 50C idle and can hit up to 70C, but all depends my room temp, because I live in NY and it is like 90C here sometimes... so ya... Check my sign for the furthest I can push. If I got water cooling, then my sign will be the speed I am running

Now that is one impressive overclock for air! Mind posting me some Superpi times @ 4.6ghz?

It throttles at 4.6Ghz :p, I did a Pi score on 4.2Ghz I forgot what was the number. I had a post of it back then. I will try to dig it out

I found it, I did it at 3.93Ghz which hits 33sec, I can OC it to 3.93Ghz (not 3.83Ghz, I was wrong) without increasing the vcore.

The Pentium 9xx vary a lot in OC ability from chip to chip actually...

With a GOOD air cooler 3.8 is just about a given, usually 4.0. Anything beyond that is gravy.

There are lots and lots of 9xx well beyond 4.0, but that is really a hit and miss thing, those 4.2+ are mostly on water cooling.

These folks got 4.4 ghz from a 965 at stock voltage

http://forums.legitreviews.com/about5165.html

they got to 4.8 with higher vcore

Everything varies chip to chip, actually. Even chips that are practically given to OC may not actually do it, like the XP 2500+. Most of them can get to 3200 (2.2G) and beyond, but some never will. So, in short, the answer to the original question is that there is no way to know until you try your chip.

I don't have Pentium D 950 but I have a lower vesion C1-Stepping Pentium D 930. With P5LD2-D Motherboard and a zalman fan. The maximum External clock I can get and can pass the post is 266MHz.
Can boot in Windows XP is 236 MHz. The best result is 3540MHz

I'm on a 930 with stock and I can get up to 3.5, but like everyone else says, it depends on your other hardware, cooling system, blah blah blah. I would imagine with a decent cooling system you could get up to around 4.2.

a) They can afford that chip where as most of us can only dream of it
b) You want your warranty on a chip like that!
c) That is already factory overclocked isnt it?
d) When it melts they probably got it for free so wont care and theyre probably cooling it with a car radiator

Uhm...What kind of BULL is this? I'm running my d930 at 4.5GHz using WC and a vcore of 1.45v. Motherboard is a p5w dh deluxe...And there's still room for a few more MHz on it ;) And, yes, it runs stressprime without problems, benches and games - no problem :)

You got lucky then.... I don't know of many 930's that can go that high...

Might be, or...maybe I just did it by the book? :p Seriously, going from p5wd-e premium to p5w dh deluxe made a 400MHz change

Nothing is a sure thing, regardless what others may experience with a single chip or even a group of chips. It's simply not that cut and dry.

I got mine to 4.00 GHz with no increase in Vcore with an Akasa AK-961 cooler on an Asus P5KC. temps are 36C idle and 49C at 100% load so it can probably go a bit more
