I have heard that my Asus 7900GTX will create more heat than my AMD X2 4000 am2 oc'ed, if so would an aftermarket cooler make it noticably cooler? If so, any suggestions?

thanks

Yes your warranty will be voided, but I built a comp with the idea that I'll probably be voiding some warranties in the process. As far as temp drops goes, I have a Leadtek 6800GS and it was never that hot to begin with, but my idle went from 41-42C to 38-39C and my load went from 67C to 48C. The real reason I bought it was for noise and the Zalman is so quiet compared to the stock. By the way my temps are with the fan controller turned down considerably, so I could probably get lower temps with it cranked.

Ya it will void the warranty, but the temp difference is amazing. the VF900 on my Asus 6800GT card is actually lighter than the stock heatsink, and dropped the idle core/ram temps from 55C/56C to 48C/49C, and the load temps from 68C/68C to 55C/54C. It's also a lot quieter than the stock heatsink. The manual fan control was a nice bonus as well.

Note: All of the temps I quoted from my card were with the cooling setup's fan's running at full speed.

Or they discover that there is AS 5 on the chip for some odd reason.

I can just see the RMA people:

"We're too cheap to use AS5.. somebody must have voided the warranty!"

I have Zalman VF 700 Al-Cu on my Gainward 7800 GTX Golden Sample and the temps dropped from 54 in idle to 45 with the fan at 5V (that means it's almost inaudible) and in load it's around 55 so I think that it's really worth buying. And I also OC-ed the card more than it already was :D Anyway 7900 GTX uses a different cooler than 7800 GTX, I don't know if it's better or not.

Check out Artic Cooling for VGA cooler. I have used it before and it is very good, very silent and exhaust the hot air out the back. Bad thing about aftermarket coolers is it's very big and may not fit. So before buying any aftermarket coolers like zalman, artic cooling, etc make sure to check the dimensions on you mobo and the slot spacing betweens cards to make sure you have enough space to install this huge coolers.
