An interview with Mike Dell...

who said...

"The 700 also features a model of Intel's Core 2 Extreme processor series so new that Intel hasn't announced it yet. In fact, Dell is actually waiting for Intel to make the formal announcement - which could come this week."

Speculation...?

The 3.0/1333 fsb part is here (Woodcrest) so a split bin up 1 to 3.33 is certainly doable.. these things are hitting 3.6+ on air already anyway...

At minimum I think it will be a 3.2/1066 part....

I think all of that is word play,... i wouldn't read into it much, the fastest Conroe will be 2.93Ghz, you can always crank it up to 3.2Ghz yourself, i bet it would run fine on the supplied cooling solution, but .... why take chances, drop $60 on heatsink/fan that does a better job.

I bet its just an announcment regarding the current part we already know about. A cursory search and look at press releases doesn't show any actual details regarding the Core 2 EE. Likely there will be an "official" press release which is what Dell is reffering to.

Quite frankly I doubt Intel would release two EE's at the same time as it makes no sense.

To clarify, I don't believe there are any official higher processors than the 2.93GHz Extreme Edition. What Dell is referring to is probably what he's been doing for a while, a factory overclocked and warrantied part, probably at 3.2GHz using a multiplier bump. This would be just like those 955EEs and 965EEs Dell overclocked and shipped as 4.26GHz Pentium Extreme Editions.
