I was getting help i n the graphics card section, until it came to installing it. I havent bought it yet though, im am looking for info so i dont get stuck in a rut.

They said i will need to change my bios if my computer does not auto change them for me when i put the new graphics card in. I asked them about bios, they said

Unless someone is intimately familiar with the BIOS used in your particular motherboard no one can give you "detailed" instructions on how to do this. It is even possible that once you insert your new video card in its PCIex16 slot the motherboard will automatically disable its on-board (integrated) video card.
So i came here....there has to be some standard for BIOs...can anybody help me? ...some info about my computer if it helps...

I'm assuming you only have onboard video.

First, shut down your computer. Disconnect everything and take your PC to a table or flat surface for you to work on. Make sure it isn't a place where you can create static electricity. Open up your case and touch the metal part of the case, or even the power supply. Place the video card in the appropriate slot. (PCI, AGP, PCIe x16). Place the card in the slot and connect the power cables from the power supply into the card. Put your PC back together and boot up. On boot up an option for other boot up options will be displayed (usually an F# key). Press it. From there, you'll be able to turn off your onboard video. When your computer starts up, go through the new hardware wizard and install the drivers.

I believe these would be the correct steps to accomplish your tasks. You could also ask in LWS's Technology Today forum. Good luck mate :)

Does that sound right?
Thx anyways guys. i dont know if this was the right place to post this, but then again i got the responce from esnow07 by posting in a pc games forum

Like the guy said it's pretty easy, Don't listen to the other guy, he sounds like a jerk (posts his own picture for his avatar... little in love with himself).

I don't usually take the motherboard out when i'm swapping parts, too much work.

sometimes you have to press esc to get into bios... so be ready. Even if you miss it and go into windows just install the card by following the instructions, make sure you use the "i have a disk" option. Put the cd that comes with the video card in your drive before pressing next. Disable the onboard when it tells you to reboot. Hopefully you get it the first time though.

As for the ram issue.... again that guy is a moron that would rather show off then help, I would suggest that you get a second gig of ram. Any time you don't have to read from your hard drive you speed things up.

As for your psu, if you do need to change it make sure that the new psu will fit in the computer, get dimensions of it and compare it to your current one.... the system makers used to put proprietary components in their systems to make you go back to them for upgrades.

The card should come with a little installation guide too so make sure you follow that, there should be pictures...

A GB of RAM should look like what's in your computer now. You can't differentiate capacity from just looking at it...if there's a sticker on the RAM it should tell you, or use CPU-Z (google it, free download) to find out from Windows. Ideally, for 2GB, you should have 2 x 1GB sticks. What's in your computer now?

For dimmensions, take a ruler and measure it yourself. Or see if anyone on the web has replaced the power supply in the same model as your computer.
