I have this dagger that I want to give it a magical ability to fortify my
strength (permanent, when in hand), and leech the strength off of opponents
(when strike). Further, I want to add fortify armor to a sheild, so my armor
lasts longer and needs fewer repairs (permanent when in hand). I also want
to Fortify speed when wearing a curass (permanent when worn), and restore
health when wearing a ring (when cast).

I am planning to have one of the mages do this, but I am unfamiliar with the
procedure. Can anyone walk me through this?

For perminant enchantments, you need golden saints or ascended sleepers;
which means grand soulgems or azuras star. You also need to know the spell
effect on your own, though one fortify attribute spell will give you fortify
for any attribute.

Instead of fortify armour, you might want to consider sanctuary effects.
The magnitude determines the percentage chance of an attack outright
missing. My character has a nice ring of 24% sanctuary, perminant.

But basically, to enchant you need a soulgem w. soul, the item, and the
knowledge of the spell effect. To make a strength amulet, take the best
amulet you can find, a grand soulgem with a golden saint inside, and know a
fortify attribute spell. Go to the enchanter.

Pick the item to be enchanted, and the soulgem. Then make the item like
you'd make a spell. The dagger won't work, though. All items are either
constant effect, cast when hit, or cast on use. No mixing.

Okay, how do I put a Golden Saint inside a gem?

Soultrap. It is a spell you cast on critters, then while the spell is still
in effect, you kill the critter. If you have an empty soulgem of sufficient
quality (the weakest soulgem will be used first... but beware: this also
means you can waste good soulgems with weak souls), the soul of the critter
will be trapped in it.

Soulgems come in various quality - e.g. petty gems which can only hold weak
souls like those of rats, grand soulgem which can hold even the strongest
souls like ascended sleepers and golden saints.

You can get soultrap spell in Balmora temple, underground level. Soulgems
can be picked up as random treasure, and a merchant in Tribunal expansion
(included in GOTY for XBox) sells it too.

I don't have the GOTY version, so let's not go there, shall we?

I managed to purchase my first enchantment. I set my fur helm to give me 0
to 20 pts health restoration per cast.

Anyway, I want to enchant my glass blade now. I am looking to give it the
ability to deliver Frost, Fire, and Shock damage to target both from a
distance and on contact. The damage should be at least 20 points. So, what
sort of creature must I soutrap, what gem is needed at minimum, and how much
is something like that gonna cost? Better yet, how would I go about learning
to do this myself?

Help me out here, guys.

When you have a Grand Soulgem (the round yellow one), then find a Golden
Saint and cast Soultrap on it. If you don't have the spell, use a scroll
of Fphyggi's Gem Feeder instead. Then kill the Golden Saint before the
soultrap effect runs out, and its soul will go into your gem.

Ahh... a fur helm that gives you a fuzzy warm feeling :)

During enchanting (by purchasing it from an Enchanter), you can see the
"Enchantment points" (let's call it EP) of your item in the upper right
corner. You can see that glass items doesn't have a lot of EP. EP means how
powerful a spell the item can hold - therefore glass is not a good material
for enchanters to work on. Ebony, on the other hand, is the best for
enchanting. It weighs a ton though.

> to target both from a
> distance and on contact. The damage should be at least 20 points. So, what

You can't do that... it's either:
- Constant effect (target is automatically you, the bearer of the item)
- Cast (you cast a spell from the item like a normal spell... target can be
yourself or others)
- Cast on Strike (weapons only, includes arrows but exclude bows - since
bows don't have a target. The target is automatically the one you're
attacking)

Also 20 pts is a very large amount for a glass weapon. Think less than 10,
and that's for a single damage type.

> sort of creature must I soutrap, what gem is needed at minimum, and how
much
> is something like that gonna cost?

Try it out yourself - that's half the fun in enchanting.

> Better yet, how would I go about learning to do this myself?

Drag a filled soulgem onto your paper doll. The enchant dialog will come up.

> Help me out here, guys.

There're many gals around here too... though I'm not.

I hope you will be able to help me here. I'm trying to enchant my Dark
Brotherhood Helm with an "Open" with 18 -100 pts (because I REALLY need
those big shests to open) on Touch on Cast. So basically i'm just asking
what kind of enchant level do I need? Oh and i'm using a grand soul gem with
winged twilight (is that better or worse than gold saints?).I'm currently 40
enchantment level and I fail everytime.

Open 100 will open everything with a normal lock. You won't need the
Winged Twilight (300 EP), since Open is a single use spell, with plenty
of time to recharge your item in between. Golden Saints have 400 EP,
and can be used for Constant Effect enchants. Raising your Enchant
and/or Intelligence will help your success.

Crowbar?

Seriously, kill one while it is under the influence of a "soul trap" spell
and have an empty grand soul gem on you. Careful though; Golden Saints can,
and will, dispell the soultrap effect.

Constant Efect... Quite usefull. I tried to summon a Golden Saint and
soultrap and kill her (well it looks like a "her" I dont know...). You can
very much guess how that went :(.... Well anyway I guess I need to find
someone to teach me enchant more because i'm at 49 level now annd Ajira
isn't going to teach me more...

The Enchantment master trainer is an Altmer named Qorwynn . You can find
him in the ancient stronghold of Indoranyon. But be careful. He is hostile
to
your character. You'll have to sneak up to him using a powerful chameleon
spell and raise his disposition to 100 before you can remove the chameleon
spell. To make things even harder, you have to fight several Daedra and a
battlemage before you meet Qorwynn.
If you've been through all of that, he will eventually train you. But even
an enchantment attribute of 100 will let you fail most of the times when
trying constant effects. I guess you will have to boost your intelligence,
too. My advice is: If you have the money, let someone else do the
enchanting
for you.

Ahhhhh damn..... ... Well would you know how much security level must I
have before opening the 100 locked chects? Well I guess 100.... Oh I think
that kind of enchantment is around 10000 gp. Nut as much as I have now, but
can be acqured.. Well thanks for your help. Guess i'm gonna go see the guy
in a few levels/years ( :( )..Hmm my alchemy level is 33. Perhaps some
intelligence potion...? <goes to check notes> Damn lot it. Well gonna go
search for an igredient that matches Ash Yam if I recall correctly. Thanks
again for your help.

You can open 100 pt locks with a much lesser amount of skill
if you use GrandMaster or Master lock picks. These picks
are not easy to find, but check in the various Thief Guild
houses.

I'm sure there's a lockspliter scroll in one of the mage guild vendors; not
the 40-60 ones, but the 100 rated ones. But I think your luck or dex(?)
comes into play; I've opened 100 locks with only a journeyman pick and a
skill in the 60s....eventually...I'll sometimes go through 1/2 a lockpick.

Jeez what have you done? Quaffed a 'Fortify Luck 1000' potion or
something?

(Been there, done that - was opening 90-100 pt locks with apprentice
lockpicks....)

Did you make this in the game or in the construction kit?

I'd like to figure out how to make some more of those Scrolls of
Icarian Flight...
