Is it possible to use a normal speaker reciever set up with a PC system? The reason I ask is because I'm going to build a new system for the bedroom that will be used for gaming and HT to replace the current HT.

Not only possible, but somewhat commonplace these days. You can either use a Y-cable with a mini-jack to RCA (i.e. like the wires you use to hook up your VCR to your TV) connection from the output jack of your sound card, or if your card (or motherboard for that matter) has digital outputs, you can use those as well. The SPDIF connection might work too, but I've only seen that connected to 5.1+ computer speaker systems...

I think Creative Labs also has an external Dolby Decoder if you want to go that route too...DTS-100 or something like that. That way if you don't have digital out, you can still get Dolby DTS/Dolby Digital sound.

Anyway, the point is...YES. :)

Well I do have a 5.1 system. Can anyone confirm if the SPDIF is an option.

Also how would this set up effect sound with games. Like would I be missing surrond features offered in games. Currently I have a PC 5.1 system but my HT speakers are of higher quality.
