OK. I'm not the most computer literate person but I can do a little. I'm wanting to upgrade my "value" RAM to something more upspeed. I have an Intel 975x motherboard with an EE 955 Processor. The RAM I currently have is PC5300 DDR2 667. Now if I want to upgrade this to say OCZ PC8000 DDR 800 will this be compatible? I'm talking about completely replacing the memory. Not trying to match both together. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Thank you so much for the fast respone. I was 80% sure it would be OK but, the other 20% that I might screw up my computer kept me from doing it without researching first.

in worst scenario your new memory will not work at full speed ...
lets say it will go down at 667 or even worse

check your mobo manual ..it says in there ...types of memory modules ...
or check at gigabyte.....

Unfortunately I don't have a manual for my motherboard as I purchased this computer from Gateway and have been making the upgrades slowly that I want. No waht are you referring to when you say "check at gigabyte"?

You can go to the support section of www.gateway.com and enter in your computer's id number (they'll show you how to find it on your computer) and it'll have all your computers support documents online for you to see.
