But, you do know that if you have a good AMD box, then it's going to run fine, yes? If you absolutely must have the best of the best at all times, then you may as well buy a machine every month.

If you can't do better research, or have an impatient streak, you've got no one else to blame but yourself. Next time don't base your purchase off of opinion, base it off of fact. Regardless of what you bought, did you need something right away? I have no doubt of how great Conroe is, but I'm still not sure when we will all be able to get one, you know with Dell and HP in front of us in line and all...

Second: Didn't you read ANYTHING else about Conroe or did you just take one person's word for it. Lemme give you some real world advice in case you haven't figured it out yet... GET A SECOND OPINION. eg: You're talking to the doctor. He says your heart has to go. He doesn't say anything about replacing it, except maybe with a chihuahua. I'd ask for another doctor's opinion before proceeding
Lastly: If you've been reading the forums anytime recently you'd notice that most people take whatever MMM had to say with a grain of salt... and that he's been BANNED for several months now.

Edit: Also, unless you have completely over the top graphics having the *best* processor probably won't make that much of a difference except in games that are CPU limited and are probably running at hundreds of frames per second anyway. For non-gaming applications there is little consolation.

Yeah, I'll admit, saying Intel will take the performance crown kinda puts a foul taste in my mouth. But, I guess they've earned it with Core 2. Difference between Conroe and Athlon may not be as night/day as everyone said it would be, but I'm pretty sure all sane people are impressed.

But still, I have to defend MMM on this one - he didn't deserve the op's hostility. So he spread a little love/FUD around. Big deal. It's up to people to get second/third/many opinions before they buy.

AMD is, as of 7/14/2006 the performance leader with the FX-62. Next week, when official Core 2 Duo/Extreme chips are released to the public for retail purchase, Intel will blow AMD a big rasberry and steal the trophy.

And @ op - lay the hell off. You said you couldn't wait, so you didn't. At the time, MMM was somewhat right.Don't cry because you have an awesome system. Be proud that you can afford it - everyone else should be so lucky to have a computer capable of high-res, full detail, smooth-as-butter gameplay.

Always consult multiple sources for large purchases. Lesson learned, better choices next time. I've been in the same boat before. I bought an Opteron about 2 months ago, before we had any real idea if Core 2 was going to eb good. I had to buy, so I made the best choice I could afford.

I'm still very happy with my Opteron. If I were buying now, would I buy AMD, hell no, Intel has the stuff I want now. But for the last few years, it's been AMD. Don't cheat yourself by being a brand loyalist, they aren't loyal to you.

I didn't read anywhere what items you chose to put your new machine together. And unless you went out and baught the cheapest stuff you could get your hands on, you probably have a decent machine.

Not having the "best" or the "fastest" isn't everything. I'm not going out and buying any of this new stuff, at least til I can get a 50 % boost over what I have now. Lighten upon yourself, and concider this a lesson learned........

As for having the best all the time...it is a short lived lifespan and always needs what seems like an endless supply of money.

its just a 3200+ 64 and an old gforce 6800 from my old box also a watercooler I build this all myself and it work first time so Im not as stopid as I sound lol
