i am trying to stop the coming all out flame wars.

beacuse you know INTEL FANS are going to be in the attack like being kicked in the ass for 2 years never happened.

AMD fans will be on the defense looking for a savior.

Let the flame wars be. There's nothing wrong with a good flame war. Makes for a good read and always produces some good laughs.

this is funny, omg intel puts out one chip that is still unstable with SLI, and every benchmark ive seen shows an overclocked Conroe compared to a reg FX-62, please....lets all rejoice when intel burns to the ground.

mmmmm......tasty.....

Don't be dumb. Actually READ the review. The $320 Core 2 Duo E6600 @ STOCK FREQUENCY beats the $1,000+ FX-62 in nearly all benchmarks.

Ahh, another regular that just registered a new account today so they wouldn't embarrass themselves.

I would rather hear Yankee and Red Sox fans go at it. Go with whoever has the best product in your price range, no need to be a Fan Boy...

That logic doesn't work around here.

rofl, you are so 31337

please tell me im so wrong. i appreciate it, but yet I saw no comment about SLI? hrmmm....Maybe because in most tests it always comes down to the intel machine being replaced 5 times then eventually just saying fk SLI we'll go single cards. Thats funny. "Lets all worry bout my proc running at 3.8ghz and my SHARED 4MB cache" But when it comes down to stability, OVERALL HARDWARE performance and COMPATABILITY. Its still lacking some of the best shit.

so i think FAN BOI ism is driving by people wanting to argue with other people over anything

with CPU's lines can be drawn...attacked and defended.... all in fun

i highly doubt a hot chick would want to here on a date how you told off a rival fan boy

Ummm, that just means Intel has made the 955/965EE/940/930/920/925/915 ALL WORTHLESS.

AMD doesn't have to sell those.

Not to mention they ahve devalued their whole line until after everything is quad. They can't raise prices on Core 2 EVER.

Yeah, AMD has to sell it's S939 and AM2 stuff, which is just as attractive as Netbust right now.

Yes, Intil is going to have a very difficult time unloading it's current inventory, but so is AMD. AMD's going to be counting on the 4-way+ server market and mindless fanboys that buy AMD no matter what.

I like, and still like AMD because of their Socket A, Socket 939, and Socket AM2 offerings. However, I'm not a fan of Core 2 Duo after seeing it's marks and value.

Reply to TechnologyCoordinator

thanks for the typo correction...

and yes i would buy INTEL.....

I have an INTEL rig as my third pc and have an INTEL laptop.

and I will buy a CONROE if it's the best bang at the time of my next rig build.

Reply to lordpope

Hmm, but, seriously, what's wrong with Intel fanboys?
And here i'm not talkin about Intel users, or even Intel fans which buy their CPUs because of the quality and because of loyalty induced by previous positive experiences..
I mean, fanboyism in itself is bad, but why root for the 800pound gorilla?
People shouldn't support AMD cause it's the better (or "more ethical" or whatever) company, as that is not true, but because Intel is by far the market leader, and all the other competitors in the CPU arena have been already crushed!
People think of these multibillion corporations in human terms, like if they have a personality, but they don't realize that their behavior is strictly dictated by their market position and market laws.
Once AMD goes bankrupt, Intel can adopt completely different pricing strategies, not to mention development cycles and product releases.
This is the kind of people who is then constantly bitching about Microsoft and their policies... Microsoft is not evil, they do what they do, because they can.
Conroe is an amazing CPU, and i'm probably going to buy one, as its value cant be beaten, but i'll never rejoice in seeing AMD in serious trouble, like it looks now.

Since AMD is lowering their prices to take back the price/performance per dollar lead. I dont see Intel doing as great as people think. They have a lot of market share to gain back before the layoffs end for Intel.

Reply to MrsD

you make great points.

i have asked many INTEL FANS why are your rooting for the compnay with everything stacked in its favor?

never get an answer

My belief is that INTEL attracts elitists who like titles

we all know those guys...

AMD seems to them to be beneath them....

thus the flame wars

AMD will ahve les trouble if OEMs present them as the easier alternative to CHOOSE FROM. They have little to no product overlap anymore so they can sell each family (Sempron, Athlon, FX) as different price points.

I like that Intel doesn't suck anymore but I want to see a scaling test where they take 4600+, 5000+, FX62, 6400, 6700, 6800 and a 7950GX2 and go from 1024 to 1920.

I'd like to see how they all scale with a monster GPU.

Here's a comment about SLI: Dell has them running stable and are ready to sell them as soon as they get the OK form Intel.

Got any links to back your claims of an Intel system being unstable?

Would you expect that they would raise the prices as time goes on? Normally a new chip starts out high and then the price lowers as time goes on and newer versions are released. Obviously Intel knows their costs and have set their prices accordingly.

Yes, root for the 200-pound gorilla, AMD. They're both Gorilla's, one is just bigger than the other. If AMD manages to strike back and become equals with Intel then we'll have two 600-pound gorillas and I won't know who to root for.

I do want AMD to be better because I don't want an Intel monopoly. If AMD wasn't around we wouldn't be talking about Conroe. Intel would be pushing it's NetBust even further to milk all the money they could out of NetBust R&D.

AMD is only open and sharing (HyperTransport, etc...) because it benefits them. AMD wants to help make money. If AMD could affor to do all the research on their own they would.

1. I agree with you about AMD product overlap, they have really reduced it a lot when they went to AM2, which is a good thing.

2. Yes, you can crank up the resolutions all day long. You know what you'll be testing? The GPU, not the CPU. During a CPU benchmark high resolutions will result in very similiar, if not nearly identical results because of the GPU being the bottleneck. At that point, your no longer testing the CPU, so that wouldn't be a good CPU benchmark.

And, i might add, then Netburst is also good, since it runs just fine the top resolutions, right Baron?

Has anyone here ever run 3dMark to benchmark or stress test a system? I'll assume a resounding yes. Has anyone ever wondered why on the cpu test that the resolution is extremely low?

http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmark06/tests/

Pay special attention to the part about cpu testing where it explains that the tests are ran at 640x480 to isolate the cpu from the gpu performance. Would Pippero care to explain?

Boys, Boys....I think everyon needs to take a step back and take a deep breath. I know it's alot for everyone to take in, but Intel is releasing a superior product. AMD had it's turn in the light, and now it's Intel's turn again. There have been 1000s of unofficial benchmarks showing that the Core 2 Duo is going to be amazing, and I'm sure there are going to be 1000s more showing the same thing. There will also be an ass ton of reviews that are biased towards intel/AMD (i.e. results on hardocp where they bottlenecked at the GPU). AMD would not be lowering the prices of their processors "to compete" if they still had the superioir product. The competition is good for all EUs.

Fighting online is like competing in the special olympics, even if you do win, you're still retarded.

My point is that they can't raise their prices at ths point. Core 2 is the biggest jump in perf and price drop ever. With 9xx and Core 2 between $200-500 which one will sell more? how long do you think it will take Intel to egt rid of all of those P4s?

Reply to BaronMatrix

If only Intel had a P4 eating machine... They could name it Dell. This "Dell" could sell crappy CPU's to uneducated PC buyers looking to get a cheap PC (after rebate).

I don't think they need to raise their prices at this point. Only Intel knows their costs and I'm sure they're covering them just fine. As for the existing P4 stocks, I would expect that as Core 2 availability increases, the price of P4's will decrease until the P4 essentially takes the economy segment of Celeron. OEM's like Dell and HP will eat up the low prices. Remember a lot of the people that these OEM's sell to don't have a clue about cpu's but they know the name Pentium and they like it. This isn't shameful for the P4, it's just the natural progression of a company that is introducing a new product line to replace an old one.
