I installed a new motherboard Biostar P4M80-M4, the system turns on and has a beeping code of one high pitch, the low pitch and then high pitch set of beeps that continue until I get into the system settings and they stop. I also get the one beep for the system boot-up. According to the manual it should be the cpu overheating and shutting down.
The temp of the cpu is around 34 degrees C, which is good. The cpu came preinstalled on the board with a sticker over the socket type, stating if removed it will be void. So, I did not want to check the cpu and be sure things looked ok there or the warranty will be void.
My question is can a CPU be damaged and fully boot the system, allow you to change system settings and takes the system all the way to installing the OS to the hard drive? The beeping is continuous unless I am in the system settings, once I save them and it reboots,it begins again.
The cpu fan is working properly and the power supply is too.
Have you checked what RPM's the fan on the cpu heatsink is running at? When I installed water cooling I had no cpu hsf and bios went nuts... I had to disable it but if your fan is spinning under the minimum rpm as bios default has it then the beeping.
Bios also has an open case warning sometimes... I disabled that as well as i open my case so often.

Thank you for any information you can give !!
My guess is the RAM is causing your problem or the neighbor over in his driveway unlloading the groceries from the back seat may have something to do with it.
Thank you both for your help. The fan is running around 4300 rpm, I checked and the open case alarm is disabled. I only have one stick of memory, I tried moving it to another slot, but no change. It is a 512mb stick and it shows up in the CMOS settings ok.
The strange thing is that during the first few alarm beeps I can hear the single boot up beep that lets you know everything is ok, but then the other beeps continue.
The CMOS detects all of the drives, memory, shows the psu voltages ok.
No error messages and it continues all the way to booting from the cd to install the OS.
This is very strange :?
Thank you again for any suggestions you can give !!
If your system is a new build, you might think about reinstalling windows XP OS. perhaps you have a driver issue and a fresh install may solve the problem.
Thank you all so much for your help and time. I was given advise to disconnect the drives and see if I still got the beeps, and I did not.
Then I attached the hard drive and beeps began again. Luckily I had a spare hard drive and connected it and everything works great !!
