The '07 version of MJOLNIR armor, now all it needs is an energy shield!

I agree, that would be a totally awesome birthday present.

Magnetic holsters? Why not just regular holsters? I wonder what the benefit is to that.

Reply to Riser

Thanks for the link. But what about NBC protection?

Besides, Hollywood's "porcelain gun" wouldn't work with them.

Like concealment is going to ever be an issue in that costume..

Perhaps Peter Weller could revive the acting career he never had with this thing.

No sleeve for safetys, front sights, clip releases etc to get hung up on. Also changes the draw for a hip holster from up-swing forward aim to swing forward-aim.

I forget who it was, but one of the more notorious outlaws from the US's wild west had a highly modified holster, it basiclly pinned the gun on a pivot so all he had to do was rotate-shoot. Not particularly accurate, but accurate enough for close range and very, very fast.

Billy the Kid shaved off the front sights.

I've heard of the holsters getting modified and all that.. but magnetic might be a bit extreme?

What about all the stuff that might get stuck to it? How easy would the weapon get knocked off if they were running and jumped into a ditch?

Reply to Riser

With this suit, you wouldn't need to run from anything.

Right, because that .50 cal coming at you, while it may not penetrate on the first hit, the next 7 coming at you in that second before you fall on the ground, might. And the fact that the impact along would probably break a few bones.

It'll keep you alive. It wasn't designed to make you robocop.

Then, you also have weak points in the armor: joints. Spray and pray would probably easily hit a joint or the neck. Hit someone in the head with a large cal weapon and it would probably knock him out.

Its designed to block a shot or two, not designed to walk through a blaze of lead.

Good question. I think it would just slow them down, slowly dissolving them later.

i have a question, how does your man-paste compare to say the blood of one of the creatures from alien the movie?

Hmmm. Similar to the way Brundlefly puked all over that dude's leg in the movie The Fly?

How do you remember the name of a character from a movie from the 80s? Or was it the late 70s? 8O

heh.. I have no clue. I've never been one to watch a lot of TV and I barely remember much about the Fly.

With T.V., I couldn't help you as I don't watch it. Movies are a different story. I love to watch them. It's how I "survive" without cable T.V. I just have a knack for remembering things and if I can't remember, there's always the IMDB. And no, I don't pay attention to the Oscars, Golden Globe, etc.... I don't give a sh!t about a bunch of shallow (for the most part), rich people patting themselves on the back.

In case you were wondering, The Fly with Jeff Goldblum is a very good movie. The second one (third actually) sucked ass.

Hell, nothings perfect. I dont agree with it, I dont even like it, there are way to many potential problems with it, but its an option and its possible adoption would fall under the rule of ORM: Do the benefits outwiegh the risks?

A lot of people place high importance on the "quick" draw. Pistols are personal defensive weapons, meaning if you have to use it, the situation has gone to crap. Most likely in a hurry. For those situations, the thinking is, if you need it, then you need to get it out and in use fast. Along those lines of thinking, a magnetic holster is great. The stuff you mentioned falls into the catogory of risks. A few others would be magnetizing critical components/magnet binding, surface finish degradation/corrosion, and magnetic interferrence with non EMI hardend electronics.

As an aside, its been awhile since I saw the stat, but I was amazed at how many young US Marines shoot themselves in their feet/legs yearly.........practicing quickdraws..........sadly, in front of mirrors.

I can guarantee that thing wont stop a 50BMG, maybe, maybe a 50SW Magnum (handgun round) but never a 50BMG.

50BMG carrys about 12500 ftlbs of force
50SW Magnum carrys about 2500 ftlbs

For comparison, current combat rifle rounds
NATO 7.62mm (a modified burn rate 308 win) carrys about 2400 fltlbs
NATO 5.56mm (modified 223 rem) carrys about 1350 ftlbs
7.62x39 (AK 47) carrys just under 1500 ftlbs

Ok, i guess its a really shitty '07 version of MJOLNIR armor, a spartan wearing a full suit (This is an average spartan-ll, Kelly can run much faster) can run in bursts of 55 km/h. But i guess a normal human would be torn apart if he tried to operate a suit of MJOLNIR armor, so its probably for the best.

No, it really does sound bad, regardless of taking a bullet or not.

The fact you were saving up for a replica of the suit is.. fanatical.

When I was house shopping, this guy had his entire basement done up in life-sized Star Wars characters. Let me tell you, Princess Leila or whatever looked a bit abused.
