XFX PVT42KUDE3 Geforce 6800XT 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

First off, is this a good VC to get?

Second will it work with direct x 10 when it comes ?

X800GTO is nice. X1600Pro would be better for a media center though.

Hmmm I am not sure about Radeon's though??? What is the big difference between the two, nvidia that is. What makes one better then the other or different then the other??

Also the memory interface is 128 compared to 256 and the clock rate is 800 instead of 1k. I do notice the core clock rate is 150 MHZ higher on the powercooler. Is that what I should be looking for? I am just not really sure about this stuff. I am pretty much a network guy. Not sure about this stuff at all.

No. There is no card on the market that is DX 10 compliant, or at least none that I know of.

So should I wait or will they make firmware for it when it is available?? Sorry but I am lost with this stuff.

from what I've heard the 6800XT is crap. it won't unlock or overclock well. I'd go for the X800 from ati.com in the clearence section. the only thing is u don't get sm3

Dude, the upgrade to DX10 will require Vista, and a handfull of expensive parts that you wont be able to afford(seeing how you are trying to go cheap as it is).

....and the 6800XT is poop

I already checked out the B2 of vista on this box. My only real issue is the Video Card right now. This is why I was looking for something that would run it and something that I could hook up to my HDTV.

I am not going to OC it so that is not a issue. What is SM3?

DX 10 will not be a firmware upgrade. It will require new video cards completely. On the other hand, since DX 10 will be Vista-only game companies will almost certianly be very slow to make games DX 10 only. DX 9 will be around for at least the next couple years.

Great, thanks a lot. Like I siad I have no clue about graphics or whatnot. I do not play games on the computer so they have never really mattered to me. I have always just used a cheap 20-30$ Vid card for my boxes or have just bought onboard Video mobos
