I have a single forest/domain windows 2000 model that I would like to upgrade
to windows 2003 and implement the empty root 2 child domain model.

Im not sure If I can roll out a new forest all together and then upgrade the
existing domain/forest into the child domain.

Any ideas as how to best go about this? Currently there is NO EXCHANGE.

Thanks!

I find this recommendation (empty root) to be largely worthless
and definitely not worth the trouble or extra expense.

Existing AD domains cannot "switch" Forests.

(Only NT domains can be upgraded "into" a forest.)

Stick with the single domain or you must create the domain
anew in the new forest -- and migrate the users.
