lexmark optra sc density check error

everytime i switch on my printer, my printer shows an error on the
display screen saying "density check", this message is shown until i
either switch of the computer or the printer.
i have tried everything restarting, but nothing seems to work.
can somebody please help me as i am finishing off my GSCE coursework
and in need of urgent help.
