Have you bought the system yet? If not, i would have to pretty much agree with The_Prophecy. If you haven't bought it yet, but insist on AMD:

1. Wait until July 24th, or a few days after for the AMD price cuts.

2. If you want your AM2 system to perform on par with, or better than a s939 system, make sure the RAM is PC6400 and will run timings of 4-4-4-12.

I want take advantage of the price drop so i want to try AMD, im planning another build after this so the next might be a core 2 duo system.

I was thinking of getting this memory http://www.newegg.com/product/prod [...] 6820145034

Any other mobo suggestion? :D

For an AM2 build, that would be a good choice.

very shnazzy, dont listen to the n00bs saying conroe will kick amds a$$..although it will, because amd is going to adjust the price drop to meet or exceed the conroes price to performance ratio (its talk), i say u may in fact will be able to spend around 200-220 for an x2 4400 AFTER conroe comes out, and u have to remeber everybody and theyre pet dog, aunt, dad, mom, sister, grandma, cousin, uncle, nephew, cat, cow, mouse, snake, car..so on so forth, are gonna get the conroe on release day (such n00bs)... in fact i am gonna be getting something quite similar hehehe be-a-uuuutiful

Make up your mind. Basically telling the OP not to listen about getting Conroe, but you are? What, do you think that by telling everyone not to get one, maybe there will be enough so that you can get yours?...Real mature.

One way or another, once the Conroe's are out, no one will be able to say that an AMD chip, over a Conroe, is better for gaming because the video card will be the bottleneck in gaming again.

Reply to The_Prophecy

I'm not a hardcore gamer, so having a super gaming PC won't do me any good.

However, I work with photoshop alot.

so my choice in hardware is good? hehe :D

Reply to NyCwill

absolutely no point whatsoever in getting the M2N32-SLI for a system mainly being used for Photoshop. Gaming isn't the only area the Conroe's will help in though. For example, i've been hearing rumors lately that installing XP with SP2 on to a system with a Core 2 chip takes about 5-10 minutes, instead of the usual 25-30.

I still say go for a Conroe, even if you don't need that much power. It just means you can go that much longer before having to upgrade again.

I have this motherboard: ASUS M2N-E and it works wonderfully. It has no pesky chipset fan that'll fail on you; instead, it is cooled with a "heat pipe" that seems to be working just great.

The only downer to that motherboard is it comes with no IEEE1394 support (aka "firewire" ).

I'd have to agree with The_Prophecy, you won't be using the SLI feature of the M2N32-SLI board, so why spend the extra cash? I suggest the aforementioned M2N-E, or if you wish to have a firewire plug, you could look elsewhere.

sorry for the misunderstanding, i ment that i am getting a computer very similar to what he will be getting... sorry, shouldve made myself clearer.

Thank you all for the advice. Ill see what happens when AMD drops the price.

I'm planning to build 2 system anyways so one is an intel and one AMD.

But just need to decide which system to built first, the other one will have to wait.

I want both to be future proof somewhat, so I dont really need to drop more money to upgrade later.

If I cant get conroe before end of August what would be the best option for an AMD setup?

I really want to wait til conroe to mature before getting it.

There are 2 setup that I came up with.

One is AMD and one is Intel.
I might do both AMD and Intel setup if time and money permits me.

AMD Setup
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000
Mobo: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe
Ram: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB)
GPU: 2 x XFX PV-T73G-UDD3 Geforce 7600GT 256MB
PSU: HIPER 580
Case: Thermaltake Armor Jr Silver

Intel Setup
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Mobo: ASUS P5W DH DELUXE
GPU: I guess ill get 7600GT also
Ram: N/A
PSU: N/A
Case: Lian-Li PC-60

Any recommendation for the RAM?

I'm trying to limit it to $1200 for both set-up.

I would use the same Corsair RAM. Check out this article.

you got monitors already?

if so then ur all good.. but im trying to get a monitor for myself and dont know which one is good for watching movies on that is for a good price also.

if you go conroe when amd releases another processor you will be ble to upgrade another intel cpu.

for amd going when pricecuts hit ur all good.

I would like to go conroe, but seems that mobo selection is still limited and still don't know if im able to get it before summer is over :(

If you go for the M2N-E, you will be saving $112 on the mobo, which is roughly the difference between a 3800+ and a 5000+(which does seem to be the best bang/buck of the AMD chips). If you absolutely want firewire, you could by a pci firewire adaptor card, and still be cheaper than the M2N32-SLI. Just something to think about. :)

But the benchmarks will still favor Conroe, even if just slightly. For example, 3dMark06 numbers will be significantly better for mid-priced and up Conroes, especially if the CPU is OC'ed to the 4GHz region. And some games will probably run a frame or 3 higher w/ Conroe. Some folks will key on those higher FPS, even if they are meaningless in actual game play.

If i can get a conroe before 8/31/06, ill go for that option lolz. I'm trying to take advantage of the no payment for 6 months on newegg lolz.

Is there a big difference with the NVIDIA nForce 570 and 590.

I'm a Graphic Designer so i want to have a system that is better for designing along with playing games lolz

Reply to NyCwill

In SLI, the 590 operates the PCIe at 2*16x for both slots while the 570 works at 2*8. The 590 also has a slew of Networking/Internet upgrades over the 570 chipset
