Hello:
I have acquired an AMD Athlon 64x2 4400. Run fine but with the program cpu-z I can´t select the processor. I believe that normal is can select the processor 1 or 2, isn´t it?. Do I must change anything on the BIOS?
Thanks for all.

Open your system settings in your control panel, select the hardware tab, and select Device Manager.

Now expand the processor information. If it isn't showing 2 4400+ processors there, that would lead me to believe that you need to flash your BIOS.

I'm guessing that your mobo is not recognizing the two cores seperatly since we have no other information about your computer hardware.

Always try to post info about your hardware so that we can help you more efficiently. Someone on the boards might have the same mobo / CPU as you and experienced the same problem, and know exactly how to fix it. But without that info, they have no way of knowing

Right click on the TaskBar and select Task Manager. Click on the Performance tab. You should see two graphs next to each other. If you don't go to Start > run and type devmgmt.msc. Then click on the Computer item. Expend the tree and see if it says ACPI Multiporcessor PC. If not then check the BIOS and see if it recognizes the chip - Isee it doesn't. If not go on the Internet and get the latest BIOS for your board.

Then go back to devmgmt.msc and click on Computer > Update driver. have it search for a new driver. Ifit doesn't find ACPI Multiprocessor PC, then go back and select choose from a list.

Select ACPI multiprocessor PC. It should install and have you reboot. The CPUz thing says that the BIOS doesn't recognize the chip. CPUz reads from the BIOS.

OK,OK, is true. My BIOS is very very old: 2005/03/07.
I have read the BIOS revision history and, in fact, from 2005/05/11 on, it allowes dual core. What clanger. Sorry and thanks for all

There is one more thing you should try.

You have to clear the CMOS. I suggest AFTER flashing your bios. If not then before. On some motherboards , apparently you need to do this for your new flash job to be validated and recognised "fully and correctly".

Believe me, this is a strange but true case, albeit rare. It happened to me once.
