My iPaq file store says in the Memory 3.70Mb Used, 2.89Mb Free
Now if I go to the Backup Utility it shows 5369.65Kb required to back up my
system.

When I open the iPaq File Store to do a new backup, it shows Space Available
2959.00Kb but how do I overwrite the existing backup, as it gives me the
error message "Not enough capacity on Target card".

Thank you my darling gurus you are always wonderful to me

You are backing up your device to the Ipaq file store and not an SD card?
Cool, as long as it will fit - which sounds like you might be getting close
some time in the future, especially if you start looking at some new apps.
For now, can you delete the previous backup in the file store, freeing up
the space? After all, it sounds like the previous backup there now is
obsolete, not much good for you. You should have the space, assuming a big
piece of that 3.70 meg is from a previous backup.

Then again you did not mention what kind of Ipaq it is, so using an SD
card/CF card not be a good option for you. After all, if the program is not
there in the case of an accidental cold reset you are stuck until you load
the backup program on it. Better than nothing by a long shot.

The next possibility is to backup only the pertinet data selectively. This
could save a lot of room, and I have to believe that this is a better use of
the small file store.

Either way it goes you are running on borrowed time on using the file store
as a complete backup storage, considering that the backup has grown from 3.7
meg to 5.3 meg, with its storage size roughly 6.5 meg.

It was so long ago I backed up to the iPaq file store I forgot you needed to
delete it in Explorer. I thought it just tipped over the top. A genuine
blond moment.
I do backup to a CF Card as well, but like to have the backup in the File
Store for field use . I have a 3950 with CF sleeve.
I don't have any more than 6.5Mb on the iPaq as I have a 512Mb SD card and
512Mb CF card to store all the geological and topographic maps on those. I
use another 3950 for all the data. Both iPaqs are solar powered. The solar
panels are mounted on my hat, the backpack carries the differential GPS
gear, aqua-pac and lunch.
Thanks for the reply

Cool. Solar power on the hat - excellent idea, almost always pointed in the
general sun direction anyway. I have been meaning to add a solar cell
charger for hiking trips, now I am motivated more than ever. It is just too
much information to not have with you, mapping and otherwise.

Differential GPS to boot - you are in my book a classy lady.

thanks.

Sounds like you're doing something interesting. Would it be of interest to
our readers of Pocket PC magazine? If so, e-mail me.
