hope that title works. i am just posting up to mention a problem and a solution for it.

after i got high pings and lost connection whilst playing BF2 and other games, i found that my ping when pinging my modem sometimes had negative values and got higher the longer my comp was on. after changing things in my BIOS i found the problem went away only to return. it was then i found out after a restart it was fixed so i knew it wasn't a hardware fault.

i am using a ASUS A8R-MVP mobo with a AMD 4400 X2. updating my ehternet drivers didn't work and it was only after googling i found a solution on a random forum. basically it is the AMD driver that causes this for some reason and updating the driver to the latest one fixes it. i realise that might sound obvious keeping your drivers up to date but some might not check for their CPU.

anyway, i just thought i'd post this to help those that might get high pings or frequent disconnections in some games. it might not help you but you might be able to help others.

So it was just your Marvel/Yukon ethernet drivers... did you update yours from Marvel? I did, infact, the first thing I do with a new board is search for drivers from chipset manufactures to compare to mobo manufactures, and if chipset manu drivers are newer, I get those...

no it was not the drivers. i uninstalled them and updated both from the marvell and asus sites to no effect. it was the AMD drivers that did it. i do not know why it works but it does. i think someone mentioned they caused interference of some kind in the south/north bridge or where ever the ethernet sends its data.

oh an just as a further piece of info i have my syustem drive as drive i: due to a mix up at the start and the AMD driver needs to find the boot.ini file in C: so i had to copy it into c: before i could update it. just as further help to other sufferers.

Note... In the future, just place post in one thread, then if you want more exposure, simply create a new thread with a link to the primary one, that way a single thread contains all replies, and your exposure and usefullness of the thread is maximised...
