If you don't define any sites and subnets for your clients, but all the
Domain Controllers have been defined within a particular site/subnet, then
is there any negative impact to the client machines?

What if a client belongs to a site that has a DC assigned that same site,
but that DC is from a different domain than the client ?

Some IF you actually have WANS.

Those clients in remote WANS may be trying to use a
DC in another "location" since it is technically the same
site.

If you define no sites, all DCs appear in the "Default-First-Site-Name"
site.

That's irrelevant -- except perhaps as a GC (Global
Catalog Server).

The client will try to find another DC from his own
domain for basic authentication (although it may use
a local GC for some forest wide type lookups after
it finds it's own DC.)
