well you can see my pc specs in my SIG.

I try to install F.E.A.R. , Prey, COD2, and other games through Daemon Tools and other CD/DVD emulator drives.. and when ever I am installing I always get a "corrupt CAB file error"

Why is this?

could it have soemthing to do with my HDs or the way I have the games stored on ISOs? They have worked for my friends but not for me.

what could be wrong?

More about : install cab errors

Yep... that or bad rips of the CD's you used. Make sure they arent scratched when you build an image.

Virtual Disk images are also more prone to curruption.
If it is not a CP error, then try making a new image of the disk.
If the game is updated online, or via a patch, the games code may change to prevent what ever methods you used to create the image.

ISO as seen as a large chunk of data by the OS, if they have be come corrupt , then there would be other corruption on his drive or the source drive of the ISOs.

If your friends have a copy of the ISOs, the do an MD5 check on them, if they truly are the same then the hash should match. If they are different then try to DL them again.

Have you also tired to burn the ISO to a Disk and install, some emulators share the same cab files as those needed for some installs, it could permissions related.

yeah my DVD-Burner is been sent back to PIONEER for it to be fixed under warranty. so i cant burn anything yet.

should i uninstall my DAEMON and re-install it .. do you think that might help?

Couldn't hurt, but if you have access to anyone who has the same ISO try the check the hash with MD5, it should only take about 4 minutes to tes. It wil be the quickest test to see if the images are good.

I ran across this recently. It's copy-protection, sure enough.

Here's the way to get around it, assuming you have a real copy(this also fixes EA's can't install/can't run the installer nonsense. If you can't isntall BF:2 or Tomb Raider: Legends, this is why - and EA says nothing about how to fix it.

- The copy protection won't work with ANY virtual drives running. You need to uninstall or disable the virtual drives created by Nero, Alcohol 120%, and so on.

Now, as to why... the copy protection jams at the region code verification and since virtual drives don't have one...

- You also need to set the region to 1(U.S.) on your DVD drive for it to work. And of course, have a legitimate copy, of course. If the copy protection hits any drives that aren't physical or set to region 1, it jams. This is in addition to the CAB file problem.

Of course, one it's installed, you can set it back.

Minor gripe: Most DVD burners won't let you change their region more than a few times. I have to have a second DVD drive on my system for titles from Japan(and had to physically yank it for the above games to install)

COPY PROTECTION
Is there only to make honest gamers angry and upset.

There hasnt been any form of copy protection that the average Joe Software Pirate cant find, download, and install in 10 minutes.

Even usb security dongles, like in Lightwave or Mya have been cracked, but the people who purchased the program for 1000$ has to put up with the inconvience.
